How to Heal Iron Deficient Anemia!

As a detox specialist, iridologist, herbalist, and healing expert, I’m here to help you address the root causes of iron deficiency through detoxification! Here’s how you can naturally heal iron deficient anemia and boost your iron levels long-term!

Below are the main root causes of anemia that must be addressed in a detox healing protocol! These are the areas of weakness and causes that I often see in the clients that come to work with me and what we focus on healing with specific raw foods and herbs in their healing protocol! It is important that all possible root causes of health issues be addressed in order to reverse dis-ease.

This is why it is so important to work with a knowledgable and experienced detox specialist to ensure you are on the correct healing path! (You can book a detox package with me here.)

The Main Root Causes of Anemia:

An Adrenal Weakness: This gland weakness creates poor mineral utilization in the body which can lead to iron anemia! The adrenals produce cortisol, a hormone that helps regulate various metabolic processes in the body, including iron metabolism. Cortisol can influence how effectively the body utilizes stored iron. In a healthy state, cortisol helps maintain the balance of iron absorption, storage, and utilization, When adrenal function is compromised, cortisol levels become imbalanced and disrupt these processes.

-You must support your adrenals with a powerful adrenal formula during your detox journey! Signs of adrenal weakness include - low blood pressure, high blood pressure, fatigue, pain and inflammation, poor kidney filtration or elimination, anxiety, chronic fatigue, blood sugar issues, fungus/candida issues, etc. Many people have genetically weak, or chronically weak adrenals, as seen in their eyes through iridology and their symptoms, so it is important to heal these glands to correct many disease conditions!

Malabsorption/Digestive Weaknesses: Mucus clogging up the intestinal wall and digestive weaknesses such as pancreatic, stomach and liver weaknesses can block nutrient absorption and disrupt the digestive process of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins. All processes of digestion, absorption, utilization, and elimination must be functioning optimally in the body to truly address nutritional deficiencies. The GI Broom that I recommend to my clients helps to remove mucoid plaque that causes poor absorption of nutrients.

Liver Weakness: Many people have liver weaknesses as seen in their eyes. The liver plays a central role in the storage, regulation, and recycling of iron. When the liver is weak, several key processes that mange iron levels can be disrupted:

-The liver stores iron in the form of ferritin, releasing it as needed for the production of new red blood cells. If the liver is weak, it struggles to store or release iron effectively, leading to insufficient iron availability when the body needs to produce hemoglobin (the molecule in the blood that carries oxygen).

-The liver also produces a hormone called hepcidin, which regulates iron absorption from the diet and controls the release of iron from storage sites. A weak liver impairs hepcidin production, leading to imbalances in iron absorption and distribution.

-The liver is also involved in recycling iron from old or damaged red blood cells. When red blood cells are broken down, the iron is salvaged and stored in the liver for future use. A weak liver may not effectively recycle this iron, reducing overall iron availability in the body to make new red blood cells.

This is why I help every client detox and heal their liver in the beginning of their detox journeys with a powerful liver herbal formula that includes the following herbs in a synergistic blend: milk thistle seed, burdock root, bayberry root and dandelion root. The liver is such a vital organ!

Insufficient Food Intake: You must make sure you are eating enough when you are on a detox program! Incorporating a variety of raw foods in larger quantities ensures that we are getting enough of all of our macronutrients and micronutrients to cover all nutritional needs. Do not be afraid to eat greens, healthy fats, sprouts, etc. You do not have to count calories, but you do have to listen to your body's hunger cues - eating when you are hungry, and stop eating when you are full. It is always a good idea to plan what you are eating ahead of time, make sure your fridge is fully stocked with raw foods, and have raw vegan foods and recipes on hand that you enjoy.

Low Iron Intake: Including more iron-rich foods in your diet is essential. However, it is important to make sure that they are clean sources of iron, not iron sourced from mucus forming or acidic foods like animal products. These will only acidify the body causing more issues and not truly address the root cause of the problem. (See the list below for clean food sources of iron)! Note - I do not recommend iron supplements as they are isolates and will only create obstructions and inflammation in the tissues.

Spleen Weakness: Many people have a spleen weakness as seen in their eyes causing anemia. The spleen acts as a filter for the blood, removing old or damaged red blood cells from circulation. These old red blood cells are broken down in the spleen and the iron from their hemoglobin is recycled and returned to the bloodstream for reuse in the production of new red blood cells. If the spleen is weak, this recycling process can be impaired, leading to a reduced supply of available iron and contributing to anemia.

Excessive Bleeding: If you are dealing with heavy menstrual cycles or suspected internal bleeding, a female reproductive formula and/or the bleeding formula may be necessary to include in your detox protocol. The herbs in the female formula balance out estrogen and progesterone to their healthy levels by healing the pituitary gland, ovaries, adrenals, and cleaning and tonifying the uterus, vagina, and cervix. 🩸

The Top Iron-Rich Foods to include in Your Raw Healing Diet:

1. Seaweeds (kelp, dulse, nori) 🌊

2. Sesame seeds or tahini

3. Hemp, chia, pumpkin, sunflower, or flax seeds

4. Avocados, bananas, grapes, tomatoes, olives 🫒

5. Cashews, almonds, and pine nuts (soak, rinse, and drain all nuts before consuming to remove phytic acids!)

6. Dark greens like spinach, kale, beets/beet greens, swiss chard, bok choy (you can have these in the form of salads or green juices) 🥬

7. You can also try a tablespoon of blackstrap molasses daily for a quick iron boost, paired with some fresh lemon/lime juice for natural vitamin c that increases iron absorption.

8. Adding a superfood blend (that has ingredients like alfalfa, moringa, spirulina, chlorella, wheatgrass, etc.) to your juice or smoothie is another great way to increase your iron intake!

All of these foods are very rich in iron and can be incorporated into your raw diet, especially at dinner time with your salad or raw vegan meal. 🥗

Detox Self-Care Tips:

•Rest is crucial during detox. People with anemia often feel dizzy, fatigued, experience muscle weakness, and feel out of breath. This is why it is important to rest while your body is healing. Avoid heavy lifting and strenuous exercise during detox, especially if you’re feeling any of these symptoms.

•If you are experiencing low blood sugar or low blood pressure, eating smaller meals more frequently throughout the day is recommended as your adrenal glands heal! It is also okay and often necessary to consume a healthy salt like pink Himalayan salt or sea salt in small quantities on your salads if you feel like you need it on your detox journey. This may be the case for many people that have adrenal weakness, low blood pressure/low blood sugar, or anemia. As you detox and heal your body, you will gradually not need or crave salt.
